Academic Belonging: Why It Matters & What Gets in the Way

January 30, 2025 @ 8:30 am - 10:00 am

Free

What role do faculty have in helping students feel like they belong at ISU? Belonging is more than school spirit or great friendships. Students describe three distinct realms of belonging in college: social, academic and campus-community. Come learn about what it means for students to experience academic belonging: why it matters; what gets in the way; and what departments and deans can do about it. Along the way, you’ll also learn how to strengthen belonging among your colleagues too.

Presenter: Dr. Lisa Nunn

Professor & Director of the Center for Educational Excellence at the University of San Diego
