Join the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) for an online workshop on how to prepare for finals with Gradescope. In this workshop, you will learn how to:

  • Set up the Canvas course for Gradescope use
  • Grade your existing handwritten exams and all multiple choice assessments on Gradescope
  • Make rubric changes as you grade – changes apply to previously graded work to maintain consistency
  • Write each comment only once – apply previously used comments with a click
  • Use ‘assignment analytics’ to gain insight into student learning

Gradescope Provides Compelling Alternatives for Paper-based STEM Assessments and Bubble Sheets

Gradescope is an assignment submission, grading, and analytics platform that leverages AI and a logical workflow that makes grading more efficient and standardized. It is a Canvas integration that synchronizes course rosters and grades. Gradescope accepts scanned handwritten submissions for digital grading.

·     Digitally grade both online and paper-based homework, exams, and other assessments

·     Utilize AI-assisted grading, handwriting recognition, dynamic rubrics, and similar answer grouping to streamline and improve grading efficiency

·     Create on-the-fly grading rubrics and easily apply changes retroactively

Canvas Peer-to-Peer User Groups (December)

The Canvas Peer-to-Peer (P2P) group consists of advanced Canvas users who support multiple faculty and courses, including instructional designers and course coordinators. The group meets monthly to discuss advanced Canvas uses, investigate related tools and technology, and collaborate on a list of shared resources. Email celt-help@iastate.edu to join.

These meetings are co-led by Gretchen Anderson (Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching) and Karla Embleton (CHS Online Distance Learning).

Grade Submission Using Canvas

The Canvas Gradebook is used to calculate students’ grades throughout the semester. Join us virtually or in 2030 Morrill for this workshop, focusing on using the ISU AdminTools: Submit Grades tool to transfer midterm and final grades to the Registrar.

Attendees will also learn strategies to ensure a transparent grading process throughout the semester.

Join our CELT course design staff to explore how to provide student accommodations using New Quizzes in Canvas. We will demonstrate the following in New Quizzes (Canvas):

  • Configure settings
  • Review academic accommodations
  • Introduce randomization of questions and answers
  • Prepare quizzes for use in ISU Online Testing Centers
  • Application of accommodations across all course quizzes and exams

Webinar, Migrating “Simple” Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes (Canvas)

Join our CELT course design staff for this or a hands-on experience with migrating simple Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes. Canvas is currently developing a bulk migration tool that will migrate all Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes while importing course content from one semester to the next. We will go through the following:

  • Migrating classic quizzes without question banks or groups
  • Migrating classic quizzes with questions groups that are not linked to groups, reviewing the item banks created
  • Discuss preparation of Classic Quizzes linked to question banks
