Fall 2022 Message for Instructors (SVPP Memo, Aug. 10, 2022)
Preparing for Final Exams & End of Semester (Teaching Tip)
New Quizzes: Migrating Simple Quizzes
Join us for a virtual training focused on a hands-on experience migrating individual simple Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes. Canvas is currently developing a bulk migration tool that will migrate all Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes while importing course content from one semester to the next.
CELT consultants will lead instructors through:
- Migrating classic quizzes without question banks or groups
- Migrating classic quizzes with questions groups that are not linked to groups, reviewing the item banks created
- Discuss preparation of Classic Quizzes linked to question banks
Come with any questions you may have about this process!
If you’d prefer to register outside of the options below, you can call CELT at 515-294-5357 or email celt@iastate.edu (specify event title, date, name, department, and title with your request).
If you are a person with a disability, please contact CELT via the above phone number or email address to request reasonable accommodations to allow participation in this event.
Grade Submission Using Canvas
The Canvas Gradebook is used to calculate students’ grades throughout the semester. Join us virtually or in 2030 Morrill for this workshop, focusing on using the ISU AdminTools: Submit Grades tool to transfer midterm and final grades to the Registrar.
Attendees will also learn strategies to ensure a transparent grading process throughout the semester.

Join CELT staff for practical tips on using Canvas Gradebook for efficient grading.
Upon completion, you will be able to configure Canvas for various grading scenarios, use Canvas Gradebook filtering and sorting functions, control when students receive notifications of graded items, and increase your productivity in Speedgrader.
New Canvas Integrations: MS Teams Classes, Pressbooks, and more
There are now several new Learning Technology Integrations (LTIs) installed and available to Iowa State University instructors to consider:
- Microsoft Teams classes
- Pressbooks
- Visible Body
- Oxford University Press
- Stukent Mimic Social
Microsoft Teams classes can be used to help you and students navigate easily between Canvas and Teams. Users can access their class Teams associated with their Canvas course directly from within Canvas. Once set up in Canvas, student rosters will automatically populate in Microsoft Teams.
The Pressbooks software enables instructors to design and format books. More information can be found on the Parks Library website. The Canvas integration allows instructors to easily add their Pressbook content to Canvas and any results from learner activity will be passed back to the Canvas Gradebook.
Oxford University Press is a publisher application, allowing for better content integration with their textbooks.
Currently, Visible Body and Stukent Mimic Social are course-specific LTIs that add interactive simulations to the learning process.
If you need or would like help with any of these LTIs or other learning technologies, email celt-help@iastate.edu. Doing this will create a ServiceNow ticket and one of our team members will be able to help you. Keep an eye on our website and our Instructional Tools page for more information and guides for each of these LTIs in the coming weeks.
Canvas Peer-to-Peer User Groups (November)
The Canvas Peer-to-Peer (P2P) group consists of advanced Canvas users who support multiple faculty and courses, including instructional designers and course coordinators. The group meets monthly to discuss advanced Canvas uses, investigate related tools and technology, and collaborate on a list of shared resources. Email celt-help@iastate.edu to join.
Participants must be established Canvas Peers before joining. Email celt-help@iastate.edu to join the Canvas Peers group.
These meetings are co-led by Gretchen Anderson (Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching) and Karla Embleton (CHS Online Distance Learning).
